Mummies and Pyramids (a post by Morgan)

People from long ago,in ancient Egypt, thout that there was an underworld,or another world.and they started making mummies.T his is how they did it: they took some cloth, wine, spices, andsalt. They wraped the dead people up in the cloth, they cleaned the mummies body, and they made 3 cofins to protect the mummie. The people from long ago made something to protect the mummie.it was called an pyramid. They took limestone and built BIG rafts[Thats what I call it]and used ropes to pull the stone up the rafts. They built them into triangle shapes.they used something to protect the greatpyramid.they made something called a sphinx to protect the greatpyramid.A sphinx had a mans head and a lions body.it did not work to protect the greatpyramid.B ecuse tomb robbers took every last piece of gold-and the mummie.wrote by:morgana.long. This is how we roll

A few pictures as of recent for all our readers (but esp. Aunt Taylor)
One of the few toy guns in our house (a couple water guns and this bubble gun)
She's a jack of all trades- goes from being a cowgirl to a princess

Jack blowing bubbles (these bubble things are SWEET- you just squeeze it a touch and the wand pops out already covered in bubble liquid)

Big girls working with some math manipulatives

Aaaaah......the joys of homeschooling- reading about Ancient Egypt outside
Gracie Girl playing with the life-sized baby doll
And a sweet smile
And to show Aunt Tay how big she's getting- she's starting to pull herself up!

The Wheels on the Bus.........

...go round and round. (but really doesn't take my kids anywhere because we homeschool)
Our first official 'back-to-school' day was this past Tuesday, the 2nd. Morgan would be in first grade if we sent her to public schools and Raelyn would be in preschool. I have a little preschool curriculum I've made up for my youngers this year.
We started off the school year right by getting a Blessing from Dad (Morgan, Raelyn and mommy!!!) the night before, getting a yummy breakfast casserole in the morning, Morgan got a new shirt (check it out in the pictures!) and for dessert we had a yummy watermelon sherbert 'cake'.

Our 1st Grade Curriculum

This is our plan so far for next year:

History: The Story of the World: Ancient Times and the related Activity Book

Science: R.E.A.L. science along with a lot of mommy-made lessons (Morgan's favorite subject)

Math: Saxon 2 and possibly Saxon 3 depending on how fast we move through it

Vocab: Wordly Wise 3000 We're a few lessons away from finishing Grade 1 and then we'll start Grade 2

Handwriting: A Reason For Handwriting Finishing up book B and then working on the Transition book

Spanish: Power-Glide for Children and lots of other supplemental materials

Social Studies: We will be using these three books a lot: Material World , Women in the Material World, and Hungry Planet . No house should be without these books. Josh said he learned more in an hour of looking at these books about the people around the world than he did in his entire K-12 education.

We'll also work on many homemaking-type skills we started last year (cooking, sewing, cleaning, etc) and we'll do some art. Morgan will take piano lesson 1x/week and do Brownie Girl Scouts.

Whew! Makes me tired just thinking about it! :)
